BizWiseTV - Evolutionary Style
We are currently building this show to be a documentary style, faster paced version of BizWiseTV ‘from the field’ that requires more visuals than a slower paced studio driven show. This type of show requires a different planning cycle but can yield a very entertaining, very informative, diverse global show that can be replicated with ease as we move forward. Portions of this could be considered ‘news magazine’ style allowing us to create short packages that can be strung together for a 30 minute ‘appt’ driven show (like TechWiseTV) or broken apart and consumed in shorter chunks with minimal editing.
Examples from Sun’s BTV (as produced by our Senior Producer Steve Ewertz, these are hi-res files and may take a moment to buffer to your machine).
Sun News Today #35 (Spanish Version) - this is good style to use for a package where we don’t need to see a host and the voice over can be done in multiple languages as needed to support the target audience.
Sun News Today #58 (Tokyo Tech) -
What is the best way to obtain the material?
The ideal way to capture this material is using a travelling CIN crew consisting of 3 people: Producer, Shooter and Audio. This one crew, already familiar with the target material, has ultimate flexibility for discovering and taking action upon anything discovered in the capture process that could aid the story. For example, during an interview, we always will find fascinating content that we could not have anticipated....a producer familiar with our style and our objectives is then able to recognize this and modify the trip as needed to make sure that any additional visual information is captured. The seemingly less expensive method of hiring a local production crew for every city quickly becomes more expensive and makes it more challenging to maximize content and consistency.
Send a CIN Crew/Hire a local Crew - Pro and Con:
Points to consider:
- Producer and Crew are 100% focused on the story(s) being captured - no issues with time of day, paying extra to capture that sunrise, etc.
- Producer and Crew are familiar with the style of the show and can make intelligent decisions about how to improve it and/or deal with the inevitable surprises.
- Equipment and output is consistent - no confusion on what style of HD is being shot or what angle the interview is supposed to capture from, etc.
- Ability to rough edit during the shooting process and lessen the possibility that something is forgotten.
- Trying to work with too much existing footage and/or relying on various rented crews requires shipping hard drives of raw footage back to the states where it must ALL be reviewed in an attempt to put the story together again. Footage from multiiple crews or sources will only increase this issue. This is a significant cost on the backside that would need to be accounted for.
- Paying for travel from the States certainly cost more on paper.
